RUNNING YOUR MEETING
The Team Handbook remains the best resource for preparation Details for how to run a meeting can be found online in Chapter 2.

The optimum sized team consists of seven members.
Each additional person decreases team functioning by 10%.

At the beginnining of each meeting, hand out two to three 3x5 cards to each team member. These cards will be used to provide feedback for positive behavior.
A scribe should be appointed.
Dale Carnige developed a strategy that is simple and effective. According to Carnegie:
1. Start by having someone write on the board: "What is the problem?"
2. In one column, list: " Causes of the Problem" This may includes flow charts, brainstorming, and other
thoughts.
3 In another column, list: "Possible Solutions"
4. Then try to narrow down what might be the "Best Solution".

At the end of the meeting, have team members fill out their 3x5 cards. Ask team members to write the name of an individual on each card along with what they saw as this person's positive contributions. The completed cards are then given to the scribe or leader who reviews them and sends them on to respective individuals. This is a great way for each team member to learn the positive impact they have had on the group.

TEAM BUILDING EXERCISE (1)
The first thing a team can do to improve its functioning is to learn who is who. We are all different but in general, we have four basic personalities:
Analytic People
- Task-oriented
- Cautious
- Deliberate
- Logical
- Low-risk takers
- Fact oriented
- These are the people who do statistics or are good organizers They have their biggest issues with Expressives
Driver
- Action-oriented
- Fast-paced
- Risk taker
- Task-oriented
- Controller
- These are the people that love to charge in their and get things done. They have the biggest issues with amiable people
- Supportive
- Bridge builders
- People-oriented
- Deliberate
- Minimizes risks
- These are the people who love to get along and do things in groups They are driven nuts by drivers!
- Trusting of people versus data
- Open
- Fast-paced
- People-oriented
- Risk-takers
- Dreamers
- Intuitive
- These people give you the conclusion first and work backwards. They often wear colored clothes and have issues with analyic people
Have team members fill in the __________ form to discern their personalites. Then group members according to their personalities. Instruct the amiables to be across the room from the drivers and the analytics to be across the room from the emoters. (You may want to project a screen that shows the template.) Point out that the people opposite them in the room will cause them the most difficulites. Also, point out that we will try not to give Emoters detail work or Drivers touchy feely projects. Using the document, team members can look at how they need to relate to members of each group. Finally, point out that even though we may have issues with the people across the room, spouses are generally from the opposite group; we become more complete as a couple.
Forms
This form is used to discover your team's personality. You should print out this form and give one to each team member to complete. This activity is a lot of fun.
